Hj Withdraws Due to Illness 23.03 14:42
Earlier this week Jakob Piil was told to rest for five days after suffering from a knee-injury since the Paris-Nice, and now Frank Hj has been forced to withdraw from Wednesday's Dwaars door Vlaanderen due to illness.
"After my training ride on Monday I got a high fever and flu-type symptoms," Hj explains. "It's too bad, cause I was really looking forward to tomorrow's race."
With Hj bedridden and Piil nursing his knee-injury, sports director Sean Yates only has six riders left in his squad.
"Even though we're 25 riders this year, you can't avoid a situation like this," says Yates. "Dwaars door Vlaanderen is a tough race, but at the same time it's the first of many on the cobble stones in Flanders, so for us it's also a matter of getting used to these kind of races, and prepare ourselves for the next three weeks."
