Bartoli Captains CSC at World Cup Opener 13.03 15:11
Team CSC sports director Alain Gallopin has picked out the seven riders to support team captain Michele Bartoli in this year's first World Cup race; the Milano-Sanremo. The seven riders are: Michael Blaudzun, Fabrizio Guidi, Bobby Julich, Frank Hj, Lars Michaelsen, Maximilian Sciandri and Jens Voigt.
We only have one captain in Milano-Sanremo and that's Bartoli, Gallopin determines. I believe he can win the race, but as usual there are some big profiles to watch out for. We have to take some chances, and we will come up with our strategy along the way, depending on how the race unfolds.
Milano-Sanremo, also known as the La Primavera, is a 294 kilometers race with three infamous climbs, Capo Berta, Cipressa and Poggio the latter only six kilometers from the finish. Last year Paolo Bettini of Quick Step won the race and eventually took the 2003 World Cup title.
